When we choose it
When there is rock underneath, when excavation is hard because of access, or when you want the pool level with the terrace. Also when you like sitting on the edge with your feet in the water, as on a bench.

How it is clad
The panels are made watertight by the liner, but outside they need a finish. The most common options are:
- Decking in timber or composite, laid horizontally.
- Stone or tile on a frame.
- White render on cement board, for a Cycladic look.
On top goes a coping wide enough to sit on. Add cushions and a plant and the pool becomes a seating area.
Pipework and safety
Pipes run behind the cladding and stay accessible for repairs. The wall height alone makes it harder for small children to get in, but it never replaces supervision. See pool safety.
At night
LED lights in the pool and a hidden strip under the coping make a raised pool look as if it floats. More on pool lighting.
