What the channel does
Around the pool, or along one or two sides, runs a channel covered by a grating. Water flows over the edge, drops into the channel and runs down to a tank. From the tank the pump sends it through the filter and back into the pool through floor jets.
The whole surface is skimmed evenly and the water looks like stretched fabric.

The balance tank
When people get in, the level rises and more water spills into the channel. That water needs somewhere to go: the balance tank. We size it from the pool surface and the number of bathers. A float valve tops it up automatically when the level drops.
Where it is worth it
Villas with a view, holiday lets and gardens where the pool is the centrepiece. The surface becomes a mirror for sky and landscape, and the photos for holiday lets look different.
Overflow needs a larger plant room, a slightly bigger pump and precise levelling. With panels, the overflow edge is adjusted to the millimetre before the liner goes in.

Liner for overflow
Dark liners (charcoal, dark grey) give the strongest mirror effect. Light ones give bright, tropical water. See liner colours.
